As part of ongoing consultations to strengthen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nigeria, former governorship candidate in Katsina State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abubakar Sadiq Yar’adua, has met with his political associates from the 12 local government areas of Daura zone.
The meeting, held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Daura Motel, brought together veteran political stakeholders and representatives from the zone. It followed similar engagements Senator Yar’adua had with supporters in Funtua on Friday and in Katsina on Saturday.
Currently serving as the National Secretary for Contact and Mobilisation of the ADC, Yar’adua said his decision to leave the APC was driven by what he described as a government lacking compassion and commitment to the masses.
“There is no need for lengthy explanations about the country’s situation because everyone feels it. But let me remind you that many of you have known me since 1998. You know my principles — wherever I am, in whichever party, I do not support injustice. That is why I left the APC, where I once contested for governor,” Yar’adua told the gathering.
He stressed that the ADC aligns with his political ideals and the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians, adding that the party had entrusted him with a key national position.
“I call on you to join the ADC willingly. Even if you choose otherwise, know that our brotherhood remains. Under my office, we are simplifying party membership registration to make it accessible for all,” he explained.
During the meeting, Yar’adua outlined the ADC’s programmes and principles, assuring stakeholders that the party’s structures would be managed transparently without personal interests.
Several participants expressed interest in joining the ADC, including Yahya Master, coordinator of Gwagware Foundation in Bindawa LGA and a current APC member, alongside other grassroots politicians from the zone.
The consultations mark a significant step in Yar’adua’s efforts to mobilise support across Katsina’s 34 local government areas as he strengthens his new political base ahead of the 2027 elections.
